Interfaith Food Bank

Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?
James 2;15-16

"The Interfaith Food Bank distributes food to hungry people as an important step in restoring human dignity and potential."

Interfaith Council of Amador is a charitable non-profit corporation founded in 1996 by local churches and social service organizations and supported 100% by the community. The primary purpose of this council is to operate The Interfaith Food Bank. Our Mission is to distribute food to hungry people as an important step in restoring human dignity and potential.

The Interfaith Food Bank collects commodites in an effort to combat hunger in Amador County. We accept donations of food from individuals as well as all the grocery stores in Amador County. Our thanks to: Raley's Safeway, Cost Less, Save Mart, Payless Market and Ione Market. In 2008 we served an average of 1300 families a month; 3500 individuals. This is an increase of 35% over last year's numbers. We continue to glean foods daily from our generous grocers in Amador County as well as the hundreds of private donations. We gleaned over 600,000 pounds last year.

We serve people from all walks of life. Most recently we have been seeing families and individuals that have never needed help before. Every day someone new comes to us for food. The people in our community, our neighbors are children, the elderly, the disabled, veterans, underemployed, homeless. The sad reality is it will continue to get worse and we are here to help. We provide emergency food boxes twice a month.
